Lathrop Trotter’s T.J. Mueller is set to be a speaker at the 5th Annual James B. Beam Industry Conference on March 11-12, 2024. This important conference is attended by 800 distillers, researchers, distillery, and supporting industry employees for three days of learning and information exchange in Kentucky’s signature industry.

T.J.’s talk will focus on the topic of using digester biogas for steam and energy production in distilleries. This is an important topic for distillers because it represents a number of opportunities for both environmental and economic advantages.

Bourbon distilleries generate significant amounts of organic waste, including spent grains and yeast by-products. Using a digester allows these organic materials to undergo anaerobic digestion, converting them into biogas. This biogas, primarily composed of methane, serves as a renewable and cleaner alternative to natural gas. By capturing and utilizing biogas, distilleries can decrease their reliance on fossil fuels, contributing to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.

The dual benefit of biogas production and waste reduction adds to the overall sustainability profile of bourbon distilleries, which not only aligns with environmental and regulatory goals but also provides economic benefits.

Lathrop Trotter has extensive experience in providing unique solutions to address utility power challenges. We are excited for the opportunity to be a part of this significant bourbon industry event.
